Higher education levels are found to correspond to a delay in starting work, and reduces gaps between men and women. The results also show that gender segregation continues to exist in first jobs. Finally, when women and men with high educational levels obtain their first job, they have access to senior positions and better working conditions. |

El objetivo del artículo es analizar el calendario de entrada al primer empleo, la inserción ocupacional y las condiciones laborales, en las que se incorporan hombres y mujeres al mercado laboral, con énfasis en los niveles de escolaridad. Se utilizaron datos de la Encuesta ESRU de Movilidad Social en México (ESRU-EMOVI 2017) y se aplicaron técnicas estadísticas descriptivas. Los resultados muestran que cuando se incrementa la escolaridad se retrasa la entrada al mercado de trabajo y se reducen las brechas entre hombres y mujeres. En términos generales, persiste la segregación ocupacional por sexo en el primer empleo. Por último, cuando se ingresa al primer empleo con niveles de escolaridad altos se accede a ocupaciones de mayor estatus y con mejores condiciones laborales para hombres y mujeres.
