Description
Summary:This research has two main objectives, to systematize the theoretical discussions regarding the issue of sexual citizenship, and to propose this category of analysis for addressing different issues associated with sexuality and identity politics in Costa Rica. Using journalistic and state sources, different situations are analyzed, mainly during the decade of 1990. Issues such as same-sex marriage and the increasing visibility of sexual diversity serve as an example to show that sexual citizenship as a conceptual variable can broaden the range of analysis by creating a dialogue between demands for rights, institutional canalization of these demands, and the usually unsatisfactory resolution on the part of the State to resolve them.
