Description
Résumé:Feminist struggles over abortion have an important tradition in academic literature. However, more attention has been paid to those who have directed their demands at the State, demanding the decriminalization or legalization of abortion and resorting to classic types of activism such as social protest and political mobilization. These perspectives have focused less on strategies of direct action that respond to the State’s failings in the area of sexual and reproductive rights, by providing information, listening, and accompaniment to perform safe self-managed abortions. In this research, the author conducts 18 semi-structured interviews with members of three Mexican organizations —Di Ramona, Morras Help Morras, and Necesito Abortar— and questions their position on traditional struggles for abortion and, therefore, in relation to the State.  The goal was to understand the dynamics of support networks embedded in broader phenomena, such as those of feminist governance. Their experience demonstrates that the relationships established between the accompaniers and the State are not antagonistic but strategic. They are articulated according to their needs and maintain a constant critique of the State’s actions and shortcomings.
