| description | This text intends to analyze the ways in which health personnel did or did not accompany the suffering and pain of people sick with Covid. Considering that both hospital spaces and the attention emanating from the staff are highly “sensory”, the aim is to understand how touch, hearing or sight played an essential role in health care. Because the pandemic meant a change in the way care was provided, since it implied the mandatory use of protective equipment that limited sensory, we attempted to explore the bodily and sensory strategies that staff had to develop to carry out their job. Considering that most of the care work is carried out by women (nurses, psychologist, social workers), we try to reflect on the ways in which this work is linked to gender stereotypes that impel them to care sensorially and emotionally. Through a series of interviews with personnel who worked in both public and private institutions located -primarily- in the states of central Mexico and who worked in hospital spaces during the pandemic, it was possible to observe how regimes of insensitivity were established in the face of the pain of the Other, but it was also possible to appreciate a multiplicity of ethical responses to suffering, which were highly sensory and emotional. |

Este texto tiene la intención de analizar las formas en que el personal de salud acompañó o no el sufrimiento y dolor de las personas enfermas por Covid-19. Considerando que tanto los espacios hospitalarios como la atención que emana del personal es altamente sensorial, se pretende comprender cómo el tacto, el oído o la vista jugaron un papel esencial en la atención de la salud. Debido a que la pandemia significó un cambio en la forma en que se prestaba la atención —ya que implicó el uso obligatorio de equipo de protección que limitaba la sensorialidad— se busca explorar las estrategias corporales y sensoriales que el personal tuvo que desarrollar para realizar su trabajo. Tomando en cuenta que la mayor parte del trabajo de cuidados lo realizan las mujeres (enfermeras, psicólogas, trabajadoras sociales), se reflexiona acerca de las formas en que dicha labor está vinculada con estereotipos de género que les impelen a cuidar sensorial y emocionalmente. A través de una serie de entrevistas al personal de salud que laboraba tanto en instituciones públicas como privadas, ubicadas primordialmente en los estados del centro de México, y que trabajó en espacios hospitalarios durante la pandemia, se pudo observar cómo se instauraron regímenes de insensibilidad frente al dolor del Otro, pero también fue posible apreciar una multiplicidad de respuestas éticas ante el sufrimiento, las cuales fueron altamente sensoriales y emocionales.
