| description | Many media reports and analysis have claimed that one of the greatest sources of inspiration of the Islamic State is the controversial medieval Muslim thinker Ibn Taymiyya (1263–1328), who is said to have been its “spiritual father”. This text, however, points out the great differences between them. The aim is to deepen the discussion through an analysis of the historical context, followed by a comparative exercise in certain ideological breakpoints. The analysis shows that the Islamic State was not inspired by Ibn Taymiyya in the areas evaluated. Ultimately, this work aims to contribute to the search for a better understanding of the origin and the context of integrist armed groups in the Middle East and the Islamic world. |

Diversos medios de comunicación y analistas han reiterado que una de las mayores fuentes de inspiración del Estado Islámico es el controvertido pensador medieval musulmán Ibn Taymiya (1263-1328), de quien se dice fue su “padre espiritual”. Aquí se plantea que, en realidad, hay grandes diferencias entre ambos. El objetivo es profundizar la discusión mediante un análisis de contexto histórico, seguido de un ejercicio comparativo de determinados puntos de quiebre ideológicos. El examen muestra que el Estado Islámico no se inspiró en Ibn Taymiya en los elementos evaluados, por lo que, en el fondo, también pretende contribuir a la búsqueda de una mejor comprensión del origen y el contexto de los grupos armados integristas en Medio Oriente y en el mundo islámico.
