La leyenda de Sīāvaš es uno de los pasajes más largos del Shahnamé del poeta persa Abolqasem Ferdousí. Al igual que muchos otros héroes y reyes del Shahnamé, los personajes de esta leyenda tienen sus antecedentes más inmediatos en figuras míticas registradas en los textos del zoroastrismo. Sin embargo, sorprende que Sīāvaš sea apenas nombrado en dichas fuentes, mientras que su padre Kāvūs, su hijo Xusrow o incluso su asesino Afrāsīāb, gozan de mucho protagonismo. En este trabajo se revisan cuatro de los textos de la tradición zoroastriana, a saber: el Avestā, el Bundahišn, el Dēnkard y el Mēnōg ī Xrad, con el objetivo de poner en evidencia las escasas referencias a Sīāvaš y buscar una explicación a la tenuidad de su presencia en dichas fuentes.
