In the cases of Japan and Spain in the 21st century, the difficulties of coming to terms with a traumatic past and developing an inclusive memory of it are related to the different approaches to analyzing such a past. This article proposes a comparative reading of the two countries, based on the tensions and positions found between the present and the past in relation to the Yasukuni Shrine in Japan, and the Valle de los Caídos mausoleum in Spain. |

Los debates sobre la memoria de experiencias históricas traumáticas forman parte tanto de la opinión pública como de la historiografía actuales. En los casos de Japón y España en el siglo XXI, las dificultades para aproximarse a un pasado traumático y desarrollar una memoria incluyente acerca de él guardan relación con los distintos enfoques sobre cómo mirar ese pasado. En este artículo se propone una lectura comparada sobre ambos países, a partir de la tensión y de las posiciones encontradas entre presente y pasado respecto al santuario Yasukuni en Japón, y el Valle de los Caídos en España.
