| description | This article analyzes the synonyms and meanings of the vulva compiled in Medieval Arab and Islamic erotic literature, from the advent of Islam to the arrival of the Ottoman Empire. In the first section, the justification of the foundational texts of Islam in relation to eroticism and the female sex is briefly introduced, together with support for the theory of this Arab obsession when classifying and reifying the female body. On the other hand, the second part is dedicated to the terminological analysis of the lexicon collected by writers and chroniclers on fictionalized vulvas and to the role that each terminology plays in the sources described: synonymic, metonymic, explanatory, encyclopedic, descriptive, and derogatory. |

En este artículo se analizan los sinónimos y las acepciones de la vulva recopilados en la literatura erótica árabe e islámica medieval, desde el advenimiento del islam hasta la llegada del Imperio otomano. En la primera sección se introduce brevemente la justificación de los textos fundacionales del islam en lo relativo al erotismo y al sexo femenino y se sustenta la teoría de esa obsesión de los árabes al clasificar y cosificar el cuerpo femenino; la segunda parte se dedica al análisis terminológico del léxico recogido por los escritores y los cronistas sobre las vulvas ficcionalizadas, y a la función que cada terminología desempeña en las fuentes descritas: sinonímica, metonímica, explicativa, enciclopédica, descriptiva y despectiva.
