| description | This work focuses on following up on the stories of a group of Mexican travelers who visited “red” China. The members of this party had something in common: none belonged to the political Left. Occupying positions closely connected to Mexico’s Institutional Revolution Party, they travel at different times when the Asian country tries to overcome international isolation. The travel stories are then tinged with an enthusiasm that ranges from “orientalism” to anti colonial or “third-world” perspectives. The article introduces us to these travelers to communist China and their main motivations for undertaking the journey, and explores a recurrent theme: the people’s commune and its impact on the life in the “Red Dragon”. |

Se hace un seguimiento de los relatos de un conjunto de viajeros mexicanos que visitaron la China “roja”. La característica que unifica a los viajeros es que ninguno pertenecía al espectro político de la izquierda. Ubicados en posiciones cercanas al régimen del Partido de la Revolución Institucional, viajan en distintos momentos en que el país asiático intenta superar el aislamiento internacional. Los relatos de viaje resultan, entonces, teñidos por un entusiasmo que va del “orientalismo” a posiciones anticoloniales o “tercermundistas”. El trabajo presenta una aproximación a los viajeros a la China “roja” y a sus principales motivaciones para emprender la travesía, y se detiene en una temática recurrente: la comuna popular, así como su impacto en la vida de la nación oriental.
