Description
Résumé:The city of Hangzhou’s West Lake is one of most important places in the cultural history of China, and yet, there is a lack of research about it in western languages. This article intends to approach the period when the West Lake took on identity as a separate “landscape”, using new interdisciplinary methodologies on landscape studies. We will review the time between the Warring States and the Five Dynasties periods, demonstrating the processes by which a certain place can take on the identity of a famous landscape in Chinese culture.
