In reality, the Spanish struggled to sustain their presence, focusing most of their attention on the maintenance of the possessions over which they already enjoyed dominance at the beginning of the century. Some attempts were made, however, to establish new settlements in the first half of the 17th century, similar to those in Manila and Cavite that had been founded previously. Such expansionist policies combined with plans to expand into Moluco, Eastern Asia, and the coast of China. |

El objetivo de este artículo es reflexionar sobre la llamada consolidación hispana en Filipinas porque contextualmente no es aplicable a la totalidad geográfica del archipiélago. En la realidad, se asiste a un fortalecimiento de la presencia hispana centrado en continuar con las posesiones ya dominadas como sufragáneas de la monarquía española, además de algunos intentos por establecer asentamientos humanos similares a los que se habían fundado en Manila y Cavite, ya que durante la primera mitad del siglo XVII se proyectó la expansión hacia el Moluco, Asia Oriental y las riberas del mar de la China.
