Descrição
Resumo:This review article examines Thrassy N. Marketos’ China's Energy Geopolitics: The Shanghai Cooperation Organization and Central Asia. In this book, Marketos studies the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), founded in 2001 by China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. He especially focuses on the role of the SCO in Chinese energy policy and the interaction of China, Russia, and the United States in Central Asia. This review article explores how, over the course of five chapters, Marketos argues that the establishment of the SCO seeks to ensure a stable environment for investment in oil and gas pipelines to supply China, prioritizing sources that do not rely on shipping.
