| Sumario: | This text is a review of two books by Hugh B. Urban: Magia Sexualis: Sex, Magic, and Liberation in Modern Western Esotericism, and The Power of Tantra: Religion, Sexuality, and the Politics of South Asian Studies. In these two works, Hugh B. Urban delves into sexuality, magic, and power through a historical and cultural lens. The review examines the history of erotic esotericism in the West and the Western construction of the concept of tantra, in contrast to its origins in India. In addition, we explore the influence of Indian tantra in the West and how these traditions have become intertwined with ideas of liberation, individualism, and consumerism in contemporary societies.
