| description | This article aims to investigate and evaluate, using the approach of Subaltern Studies and the proposal of the cultural anthropologist Saba Mahmood (related to the agency or the capacity for action of women involved in religious movements), the role of female members of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement “Hamas” from its emergence in 1987 until 2006, when the Movement’s political wing won the elections of the Legislative Council.
We are going to talk about “women” as a minority or subaltern group with the capability to challenge the specific context in which they spend their lives. The following are questions which guide our study: Do the media images of Muslim women (especially those produced by the press and the cinema —in which persist the definition of the East in opposition to the West—) constitute an authentic portrait of the Palestinian reality? Can we talk about female empowerment within Hamas? |

Este artículo tiene el objetivo de indagar y evaluar, con ayuda del enfoque de los estudios subalternos y de la propuesta de la antropóloga sociocultural Saba Mahmood (referente a la agencia o capacidad de acción de las mujeres que participan en movimientos religiosos), el papel de los integrantes femeninos del Movimiento de Resistencia Islámica palestino “Hamas”, desde de su surgimiento en 1987 hasta 2006, cuando el partido político del Movimiento resultara triunfador en las elecciones del Consejo Legislativo. Se habla de “las mujeres” como una minoría o grupo subalterno que se debate entre el “silencio” o la “sin agencia” y la “voz” participativa, creadora de estrategias de inserción y contestación al contexto específico en que transcurre su existencia. Las siguientes son algunas de las preguntas que guían el estudio: ¿será que los retratos mediáticos de las mujeres musulmanas (especialmente los divulgados por la prensa o el cine, en los que pervive la definición de lo oriental en contraposición a Occidente) son una muestra auténtica de la realidad palestina? ¿Cabe hablar de un empoderamiento femenino en el interior de Hamas? Si es así, ¿el empoderamiento se traslada a ámbitos tradicionalmente “masculinos” (política, liderazgo, economía, etcétera)?
