Beijing’s diplomacy has underpinned corporate activities of Chinese National Petroleum Corporation and China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation in Saudi Arabia. Nonetheless, it has not been enough to propel better relations between China National Petroleum Corporation and the Iranian national oil company and government. |

El agotamiento del modelo energético maoísta y la necesidad de crear empresas globalmente competitivas en sectores estratégicos ha conducido a la internacionalización de las tres corporaciones petroleras más importantes de China. Uno de los casos más sobresalientes de este proceso se ha dado en el golfo Pérsico, donde Chinese National Petroleum Corporation, China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation y Chinese National Offshore Oil Corporation han concluido acuerdos en los sectores de exploración, producción y refinación. La base de este éxito han sido las complementariedades económicas entre las industrias de la República Popular y las de Arabia Saudita, Irán e Iraq, y no, como suele creerse, la iniciativa del ejecutivo chino. La diplomacia de Beijing ha coadyuvado a la operación de sus firmas en el caso saudita; sin embargo, en Irán no ha sido suficiente para echar a andar los proyectos negociados.
