Un estudio analítico de la relación entre la política y la música en un esfuerzo por presentar la manera en que se constituyó la figura del dictador keniano Daniel Arap Moi en las canciones que se produjeron durante su gobierno (1978-2002). El artículo analiza a profundidad cómo la música conformó un sitio importante en el que el régimen dictatorial de Arap Moi hizo valer su autoridad y, a la vez, sondea el espacio ambivalente que la música ocupa en la política. Con una visión de la música como un “sitio mordaz en la política de África”, el artículo analiza principalmente aquella que se produjo en forma de cantos de alabanza y herramientas de propaganda, así como las voces opositoras de otros artistas que durante ese tiempo tuvieron que soportar la censura.
