Description
Résumé:The 2004 census data shows that illiteracy among women is one of the main social problems in Morocco, especially in rural areas. Several non-formal educational programs that aim to solve this problem have been developed both by official institutions and NGOs, through their development cooperation projects. During the course of two academic years one such project provided us with the framework for this research paper. Its main purpose is to outline some of the characteristics of women who attend literacy courses in rural Asilah. Given the data, the profile of these individuals is that of an unmarried young woman (less than 35 years old) with no children or remunerated profession and a limited degree of personal autonomy, who shows an active interest in formative activities that can contribute to her economic resources.
