| description | The article analyzes the war carried out by Israel against the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Gaza between December 2008 and January 2009, in order to see whether this initiative has succeeded, or not, in gratifying the Israeli interest in restoring its deterrent capability. After introducing some of the most important frameworks of engagement, the work mainly focuses on the military factors of the conflict, for instance, the firing of Qassam rockets by Hamas into Israel, the main objectives and stages of operation Cast Lead and its intensive caliber, and also the limited response capacity shown by Hamas. The last part of the article deals with the behavior of several regional and international policies regarding the war. |

El artículo se dedica a analizar la guerra desarrollada por Israel contra el Movimiento de Resistencia Islámica (Hamas) en Gaza entre diciembre de 2008 y enero de 2009, para ver en qué medida tal iniciativa responde o no, al interés israelí de restaurar su capacidad disuasiva. Luego de mencionar algunos de los antecedentes más importantes de diversa naturaleza, el trabajo estudia esencialmente los factores militares del conflicto, entre otros: el lanzamiento de cohetes Qassam, los principales objetivos y fases de la operación Plomo fundido y su carácter intensivo, así como la limitada capacidad de respuesta mostrada por Hamas. La última parte del artículo aborda el comportamiento de varias políticas regionales e internacionales en relación a la guerra.
