Ante el distanciamiento de la administración López Obrador de los temas de la agenda internacional del país, los autores del texto consideran necesario salir de los tópicos internacionales para analizar las nuevas temáticas impuestas por el cambio en el contexto de a relación con los principales países de Asia del Este: Japón y la República Popular China. Esas nuevas temáticas están relacionadas con el comercio de los precursores de drogas sintéticas (en el caso de China) y con el tráfico de estupefacientes realizado por ciudadanos mexicanos (en el caso de Japón). Este tópico emergente influye, desde ahora, sobre las relaciones del gobierno mexicano con sus contrapartes asiáticas; sin duda, será determinante para el desarrollo futuro de ellas.
