| description | Malaysia is currently undergoing a phase of uncertainty, both domestically and internationally. On the domestic front, the country’s positive economic performance is not assured, jeopardizing the Malaysia Madani project announced by Anwar Ibrahim to address major socio-economic problems. On the other hand, Anwar Ibrahim’s appointment as prime minister has not resolved the existing differences between the various factions of the Malaysian political class and the prime minister's supporters seem disillusioned, adding to the feeling of uncertainty. In the international arena, the government’s position is contradictory: while proclaiming neutrality in the Sino-American dispute it still privileges relations with the People’s Republic of China, despite the risks posed by the Chinese presence in the South China Sea. Restoring relations with Singapore is not enough to counterbalance China’s growing influence. |

En la actualidad, Malasia atraviesa por una fase de incertidumbre, tanto en la escala doméstica, como en la internacional. En el plano doméstico, el desempeño económico positivo del país no está asegurado, y pone en riesgo el proyecto Malaysia Madani, anunciado por Anwar Ibrahim para enfrentar grandes problemas socio-económicos. Por otra parte, el nombramiento de Anwar Ibrahim como primer ministro dista de haber disipado los diferendos existentes entre las diversas facciones de la clase política malasia, y sus partidarios parecen desencantados, y con ello se acentúa la incertidumbre. En el ámbito internacional, la posición gubernamental es contradictoria: al mismo tiempo pregona neutralidad en el diferendo sino-estadounidense y privilegia los nexos con la República Popular China, a pesar de los riesgos que implica la presencia china en el Mar del Sur de China. La recomposición de la relación con Singapur no basta para ejercer un contrapeso al influjo creciente de China.
