After a brief introduction to these variables, we will focus our attention on the events of the past year (October 2022–September 2023), briefly returning to the coup of February 2021, a situation that set the course for domestic politics, foreign relations, and economic development. Unsurprisingly, the only beneficiaries have been the military, who with great cunning continue in power, increasing their wealth and controlling every aspect of the lives of the Burmese. |

Myanmar ha sido considerado durante décadas un país hermético. Su gran diversidad religiosa, étnica y lingüística, así como sus antecedentes históricos, son variables fundamentales que ayudan a comprender la realidad de más de 57 millones de birmanos en la actualidad. Si bien daremos una breve introducción sobre estas variables, concentraremos nuestra atención en lo ocurrido durante el último año (octubre 2022-septiembre 2023), retomando brevemente el golpe de Estado ocurrido en febrero de 2021, situación que ha dictado la ruta de la política interior, las relaciones con el exterior y el desarrollo económico. No es de sorprender que los únicos beneficiados hayan sido los militares, quienes con gran astucia continúan en el poder mientras incrementan sus riquezas y controlan cada aspecto de la vida de los birmanos.
