| description | China’s situation changed in 2022. The 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party consolidated Xi Jinping’s leadership as General Secretary for a third term. In the foreign policy arena, the China-U.S. confrontation continued, and has now begun to focus on technology issues. The Taiwan conflict escalated to the point of China carrying out military exercises, revealing its decision to recover the island in the medium term. Relations with the European Union deteriorated due to European countries’ support for the Biden administrations’ anti-Chinese policies, and in reaction to China’s position in the Ukrainian conflict. The economy suffered a significant downturn as a result of the Zero Covid policy and the disruption in the economic relationship with the United States. The Chinese government’s policies have turned Hong Kong into a territory that increasingly resembles that of a Chinese province. Its economy continues to be linked to that of the center. It is now clear that “one country” now prevails of the “two systems” principle in place since 1997. |

En política, el XX Congreso del Partido Comunista Chino consolidó el liderazgo de Xi Jinping, que se quedó como secretario general por un tercer periodo. En política exterior, el enfrentamiento ChinaEstados Unidos continuó y fue llevado hasta el plano de la tecnología. El conflicto de Taiwán llegó al punto de la realización de ejercicios militares por parte de China, que mostró su decisión de recuperar la isla en el mediano plazo. Las relaciones con la Unión Europea se tensaron debido al respaldo de estos países a las políticas antichinas del gobierno de Biden y por la posición china en el conflicto ucraniano. La economía sufrió una caída importante, producto de la política cero covid-19 y de la dislocación en la relación económica con Estados Unidos. Las políticas seguidas por el gobierno chino han convertido a Hong Kong en un territorio que se parece cada vez más al de una provincia china. Su economía continúa vinculada a la del centro. Ahora sí predomina más “un país” que “dos sistemas” dentro de la fórmula establecida desde 1997.
