Description
Summary:In 2022, Australia experienced intense events as the Covid-19 pandemic was ending and with the backdrop of the political battles that led to federal elections in May. This paper includes economic indicators that show a mild impact of the virus on the economy and a stable, successful recovery, materialized in rising employment, inflation control, increase in international trade, among other variables. The bipartisanship has strengthened and the liberals have returned as the most powerful political force that faces several complex challenges, mainly the economy and the relationship with China, a central issue on the domestic agenda. China’s increasing power and US policies toward the region force Australians to join the Quad and the so-called Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF). Specific relations mainly with India and Japan revolve around the above situation. This work reveals that Australians deploy their own international initiatives, particularly related to cooperation and several in connection to Beijing.
