| description | During 2021, Malaysia continued to feel the effects of the global economic crisis caused by the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, and the internal political crisis than began in February 2020. This provides a background to the core premise of our study, namely that Malaysia continued to experience a three-fold economic, health, and political crises. To support this view, we put forward three complimentary arguments: first, we establish a time frame to gauge the size of the recession caused by Covid-19 and we analyze the recent evolution of GDP, from the perspective of production and consumption. Second, we study Malaysia’s trade performance on the international scale, assessing the absolute and relative changes in its relations with the economies belonging to the three major economic integration projects in the Pacific region. And third, against the background of the dynamic of the SARSCoV-2 pandemic, we focus on the political crisis developing during 2021; we highlight the three changes of government in less than two years as a result of the conflict of interest between the political actors, on the one hand, and, on the other, the waiting period opened by the Ismail Sabri administration’ first 100 days in office. |

Durante 2021, Malasia siguió resintiendo los efectos de la crisis económica mundial provocada por la propagación del SARS-CoV-2 y la crisis política interna iniciada en febrero de 2020. De ahí, la idea central del trabajo: Malasia siguió experimentando una crisis económica, sanitaria y política; para sostener esta opinión, desarrollamos nuestros argumentos en tres direcciones complementarias: en la primera parte establecemos un marco temporal para definir la dimensión de la recesión provocada por la covid-19 y analizamos la evolución reciente del PIB en las perspectivas de la producción y del consumo. En la segunda parte estudiamos el desempeño comercial de Malasia en la escala internacional, evaluando los cambios absolutos y relativos en sus relaciones con las economías participantes en los tres grandes proyectos de integración económica en la región del Pacífico. Finalmente, en la tercera parte, teniendo como telón de fondo la dinámica de la pandemia del SARS-CoV-2, concentramos nuestra atención sobre el progreso de la crisis política durante 2021; destacamos los tres cambios de gobierno ocurridos en menos de dos años como consecuencia del conflicto de intereses entre los actores políticos, por un lado, y, por el otro, el compás de espera abierto por la administración de Ismail Sabri durante los primeros 100 días en ejercicio.
