1989“…This study reveals the following: a) that, during the observation period, the conditions of natural fertility which had existed in 1969 in the country's rural areas disappeared and that, with the passage of time, there has been greater use of - contraceptive methods and, consequently, more pronounced reductions of the fertility rate; b) that in urban areas, contraception is practiced widely and ever-increasingly; c) that, upon observing the behavior of the drop reported in rural zones during the 1976- 1982 period, the theory of modernization loses effectiveness since, at least in some instances, the increased pace of efforts to limit family size has been greater in rural areas than in urban ones. Even though the author's hypothesis is confirmed to a certain degree, it is probable that a sustained reduction of fertility in the country's most depressed zones can only be attained through substantial socioeconomic change.…”

Dinámica demográfica del crecimiento urbano en México : 1940-1980
Estudios Demográficos y Urbanos
1990“…This finding contradicts the widespread belief that in Mexico, as of 1970, there has been a process of "metropolitanization" and of "growth of intermediate cities". More than a process of urbanization or urban development, the proliferation of "intermediate" cities represents a phenomenon of demographic growth.…”

1995“…In any case, the deficient transportation and dangerous road systems in Chalco, specially in its south and west areas, are evidence that urban transport policy in Mexico is unfair and faulty for most of the population. This seems to prove that what determines house location is more the actual availability of the plots (costs, facilities, organization) than a long-term minimization of money and time investments, as has been said more frequently.…”

2015“…During the last two and a half years of his life, Max Weber wrote letters that could be used to write a sociology of the Central European intelligentsia during the wars. Rather than discussing Weber’s encounters with the most renowned writers —Thomas Mann, Hugo von Hofmannsthal— and musicians —that of Richard Strauss, among several composers and conductors— of his time, this article discusses three more conventionally Weberian topics, which are nonetheless insufficiently understood: first Weber’s involvement, that and of some of his students, like Georgy Lukaçs, in politics at the end of World War I. …”

Historia Mexicana
2011“…During the second half of the 1920’s and the first half of the 1930’s, in Tabasco, parallel to the development of “anti-alcoholic”, “pro-woman” and “religious defanatization” campaigns, a number of social experiments were held, which were characterized by their radicalism, organization and will to exert control over the territory, and whose predominant character was socio-cultural, rather than political. Within this framework, we compared the ethnographic and historiographic work with documents from civil (State Archive, agn, sep, Calles-Torreblanca Trusteeship) and religious (the Pascual Díaz collection from the Historical Archive of the Archbishopric of Mexico, Vatican Secret Archive) archives, in order to define certain characteristics of Garridism in its relation with the complex indigenous world of Tabasco, with its view of the world and its religiousness. …”

2009“…Poor registration was analyzed on the basis of an alternative index constructed on the assumption that in places where there is female over-mortality compared with the rest of the state and the mortality ratio by sexes differs sharply from the state average, women are more vulnerable than their peers in other municipalities, meaning that MM may be under-registered. …”

2005“…The 2000 version included the open group of those ages 100 and over, from 1930 to the 2050 forecast.Although prior to the year 2000, the limit of 100 years and over was sufficient for drawing up population structures and mortality tables, from that year onwards, it proved insufficient for undertaking forecasts, meaning that the group ages 100 and over needs to be broken down into smaller sub-divisions.One suggestion is to assume Gompertz behavior in mortality on the basis of the right dx mode, even though this overestimates mortality in extreme old age, as a result of which survival rates are higher than those calculated. The dx distribution adjusts to a normal curve on the right side, whose mean increases over time, while standard deviations decreases, which corresponds to the expected shape based on experience and theoretical proposals. …”

2001“…In 18th century Pamplona, a city where the stem family model predominated, the elderly lived in complex households, although to a lesser extent than those in adjacent rural areas. The case of Bilbao, an economic center in northern Spain with a predominance of simple households, shows how solidarity with the elderly can also be compatible with this family type. …”
