Descripción
Sumario:This paper addresses the problem of the distribution of (s) in the phoneticgeography of Mexico, from the data included in map 26, one of the mostdifficult to read between the socalled synthetic maps in the Atlas Lingüísticode México, because the enormous amount of information concentrated andthe large number of phonetic variants that was distinguished. Against theethnographic excesses and formal shortcomings of traditional dialectology, the attempt is to reduce to a few statements the diversity of material. Froma point of view of variable phonology, data are established in a quantitativeand formal way in order to propose a simple model of dialect areas regardingonly a reduced number of linguistic restrictions.
