El propósito de este trabajo es analizar en profundidad la tercera edición del Diccionario de la lengua castellana (1791) de la Real Academia Española. No se trata de un análisis sin más, pues viene motivado por una nserie de hallazgos que pueden considerarse innovadores, entre los cuales se mencuentran, en primer lugar, la existencia de al menos una reimpresión retocada mde la obra, desconocida hasta ahora por la comunidad investigadora; y, en segundo, la publicación exenta de un Suplemento (1791), por primera y única vez, con las novedades de esta edición con respecto a las anteriores del compendio académico.
