As a central point of this paper, I show that this bare object “a mass or plural noun” does not behave syntactically like a direct object and, as a result, the corresponding construction is not transitive. The conclusion, then, is that sentences expressing atelic activity are intransitive, even though the verb takes this bare nominal. I have suggested, along with several other authors, that this object which I call a ‘pseudo-object’, following Ramchand (1997), behaves syntactically and semantically more like an adverbial modifier which has been incorporated into the verb, and that this object gives the [verb-pseudo-object] unit a sense of type or subclass. |

Observaciones translingüísticas han mostrado que el sentido de actividad atélica con verbos lábiles o ambitransitivos se formaliza mediante estructuras intransitivas (antipasiva, de objeto incorporado, de objeto oblicuo), o transitivas, con un objeto en forma de frase nominal escueta. En el meollo de este trabajo muestro que este objeto escueto “sustantivo de masa o plural escueto” no se comporta sintácticamente como un objeto directo, y, por lo tanto, la construcción correspondiente no es transitiva. La conclusión, en consecuencia, es que las oraciones con sentido de actividad atélica son intransitivas, aunque el verbo se expanda con ese tipo de frase nominal escueta, y he sugerido, de acuerdo con varios autores, que ese objeto, al que llamo ‘pseudo-objeto’, siguiendo a Ramchand (1997), se comporta sintáctica y semánticamente como un modificador adverbial incorporado en el verbo, y le aporta un sentido de tipo o subclase a la unidad [verbo-pseudo-objeto].
