Este artículo analiza la postura de quienes atribuyen al determinante cierto un contenido de imprecisión deliberada como parte de su semántica y, en consonanciacon esta idea, caracterizan a cierto como un “marcador de aproximación”o “regulador de laxitud” que expande el halo pragmático de las expresiones en las que aparece. El presente artículo trata de mostrar que el supuesto valor de imprecisión no forma parte de la semántica de cierto, sino que surge porfactores pragmáticos, y que cierto no aumenta el halo pragmático de los enunciados en que figura sino todo lo contrario: lo restringe.
