Description
Summary:In the following study I correct a conclusion Antonio Alatorre presentedin a 1993 article that appeared in NRFH. AA believed the anonymous ‘Burlesque Fable about Jesus’ (Ms. 17.687 BNE) to be the work of Miguel de Barrios, whereas it is, in fact, the creation of Abraham Gómez Silveira (Arévalo1656-Amsterdam 1741), the zany poet-rabbi of the Netherlands. Internalindications in the narrative poem corroborate this assertion. A critical editionof the ten additional poems contained in the same ms. are included inan appendix, for they appear to be authored by AGS.
