description This article argues that Joaquín Baranda, the Lerdista governor of Campeche, along with the members of his party, sought to detain the advance of the Tuxtepec Revolution in the state through a skillful strategy that consisted of simultaneously renouncing power and fully liquidating the civil service. They wisely orchestrated their own downfall, precipitating a secret triumph of the vanquished over the public triumph of the victors: Campeche would be Tuxtepecan but wouldn’t stop being Barandista.

They wisely orchestrated their own downfall, precipitating a secret triumph of the vanquished over the public triumph of the victors: Campeche would be Tuxtepecan but wouldn’t stop being Barandista.
