Description
Résumé:The article analyzes the divergent ways that sought to reinterpret the "national history" in connection with the commemoration of the centenary of the Ecuadorian independence on August 10 , 1909. We study certain narratives and rituals of remembrance, focusing on the dialectic between present and past, frames of perception of the past and the process of erection of the monument to the heroes of 1809. The study pays special attention to the Spanish scholar, religious and secular substrates struggled to constrict the national memory and patriotic speech. Finally we reflect on the role that the "duty of memory" a concept proposed by Paul Ricoeur, fulfilled in the commemoration.
