| description | The identification metaphors during the celebration of the independence centenary in Chile were defined by partisan discourses, access to modernity, and opposition to the political, cultural, and social system originated during the nineteenth century. On the one hand, this territorial definition gave place to a rhetoric of landscape according to a social critique containing the paradigms of time and space. On the other hand, it fostered the definition of spaces of power, where festivities, popular activities, and the erection of monuments delimit territorial politics and the symbolic construction of Chilean oligarchy. Reading these expressions would explain the position occupied by social subjects and their territorial affirmation after 1910. |

Las metáforas de identificación en la ciudad durante la celebración del Centenario en Chile fueron delimitadas por discursos partidistas, el acceso a la modernidad y la oposición a la continuidad del sistema político, cultural y social que se originara durante el siglo XIX. Junto a ello, la definición del territorio permitió, por una parte, el desarrollo de la retórica del paisaje en función de una crítica social que contiene los paradigmas de espacio y lugar. Mientras que por otra potenció la definición de espacios de poder, donde los festejos, actividades populares y la instalación de monumentos delimitan la política territorial y la construcción simbólica de la oligarquía chilena. La lectura de estas expresiones explicaría la posición que ocuparon los sujetos sociales y su afirmación en el territorio a partir de 1910.
