Summary: | This paper talks about the aspects more conspicuous in the process of biology science institutionalization in Mexico and the role that Alfonso Luis Herrera and Isaac Ochoteresa had on it. According to Kuhn, Foucault, Bourdieu, Smocovitis, Lenoir, and Biagioli conceptions, the meaning of this stage is interpreted and the displacement of Herrera by Ochoterena and the arise of the last one as the first personage in biology teaching and research it is explained. It is concluded that these circunstances led to the neglect of the research on the origin and the evolution of the life and that the way biology science was institutionalized in this country involved a discursive and socioprofessional incommensurability that had as a consequence the integration of the biologist community to the model and tendencies of a most consolidated academy community such as the medical one.
