Although ephemeral, this income must be understood as part of the factory workers' Guadalupan devotion and of their concern for safeguarding the collegial chapter's prestige by supporting an ostentatious chapel. |

Uno de los aspectos más interesantes del estudio de las capillas de música en la Nueva España, y que tendría que ver particularmente con el ámbito de la historia, se refiere a la forma en que se obtenían los ingresos para mantener al personal humano de estas organizaciones. En este sentido, el objetivo de este artículo es revisar cuál fue el proceso que se siguió para que los operarios de la Real Fábrica de Puros y Cigarros de la Ciudad de México sostuvieran con el producto de su trabajo a los músicos de la Colegiata de Guadalupe. Aunque de carácter efímero, debemos entender esta derrama de dinero dentro del marco de la devoción guadalupana de los trabajadores cigarreros y la salvaguarda del prestigio del cabildo colegial mediante la manutención de una capilla ostentosa.
