Sumario:One of the most fascinating aspects of studying New Spain's music chapels, of direct interest to historians, refers to the way these organizations obtained funding for their staff. This work examines specifically the process undergone in order for the workers of the Real Fábrica de Puros y Cigarros (Royal Cigar and Cigarette Factory) in Mexico City to support with their work that of the musicians in the Colegiata (collegiate church) of Guadalupe. Although ephemeral, this income must be understood as part of the factory workers' Guadalupan devotion and of their concern for safeguarding the collegial chapter's prestige by supporting an ostentatious chapel.
