| Summary: | This bibliographic essay critically reviews two recent books on the Atlantic Revolutions and the Age of Revolutions (1688-1848): Patrick Griffin’s The Age of Atlantic Revolution (2023) and Nathan Perl-Rosenthal’s The Age of Revolutions (2024). It argues that these works are illustrative of trends in American academia when studying this crucial period for political modernity. Through an examination of several historiographical issues in both works, the essay aims to foster a discussion on how this era is studied and explained in contemporary academia. Special emphasis is placed on the effects of the hegemony of the English language in research, whose implications for interpreting the Age of Revolutions are significant yet frequently ignored. |
