La relación entre el Reino Unido y la Unión Europea (ue) ha sido descrita como incómoda, y el Brexit representa la cúspide de esta tensión. Este artículo recurre al marco de los sistemas adaptativos complejos y al modelo “contenedores, diferencias, intercambios” (cde por sus siglas en inglés) para entender el Brexit como un punto de inflexión en el patrón de la relación entre el Reino Unido y la ue, desde la integración diferenciada hasta la desintegración. Asimismo, de acuerdo con la teoría posfuncionalista, se argumenta que el “disenso restrictivo” que surgió desde la década de 1990 ha estado presionando tanto para una integración más diferenciada como, en última instancia, para la desintegración.
