In order to accomplish it, the following aspects are examined: the external outlook of Economía y sociedad, its shortcomings in terms of oversights, changes in the word sequence, omissions, biased translations of a concept, and the rendering of Weber’s terms of the art, like Verband organization, Ordnung order y Betrieb establishment. In Economía y sociedad these terms are sometimes translated in ways that suggets connotations absent from the German original, suppress others that were actually implicit, without the required consistency. These shortcomings set hurdles to a proper understanding of the work and speak for a new translation. |

Una lectura en profundidad de Economía y sociedad de Max Weber se puede beneficiar sustancialmente de comparar la obra en alemán con su versión en español. Para llevar a cabo esta labor, el artículo examina la apariencia externa de Economía y sociedad en español así como las limitaciones —descuidos, alteraciones en la secuencia, omisiones, y tergiversaciones del sentido de los términos— que caracterizan la misma, para concluir con las traducciones de algunos conceptos básicos para Weber, como Verband asociación, Ordnung orden y Betrieb explotación, que implican connotaciones que no existen en el original, que suprimen otras que sí tienen, y que carecen de la necesaria consistencia. Todo ello difi culta sensiblemente la comprensión de la obra y aconseja una nueva traducción.
