| Resumo: | In recent years, Argentina has sprung up in community-based organization initiatives for children care in poverty contexts. While there are studies on the characteristics of these organizations, there is a less knowledge about women which participate there as caregivers. This article intends to meet these caregivers, their previous careers and their expectations around caregiving labour from an empirical approach based on in-depth interviews. The intention is to problematize some explanations circulating around the participation of women at the community level, supported on their “unselfishness”, “generosity” and “voluntarism”.
