| Sumario: | The model villages in the department of Alta Verapaz, Guatemala, were spaces designed to concentrate and re-educate the population, implemented by the military following an intense campaign of massacres, forced displacements, and persecutions that began in 1978 and intensified around 1983. In this context, the control of Maya women's bodies and labor was crucial for intimidating and subjugating the inhabitants in order to implement national development and security policies that aligned with the plantation regime. This article examines the experiences of Poqomchi' women from the community of San Lucas Chiacal regarding the events during their forced displacement, their confinement in model villages, and the implications of these experiences on current community dynamics.
