description From a personal perspective, and within the framework of client relations in the street markets in Monterrey, this article analyzes the union delegates and their interactions with the merchants. The objective is to explain based on what kind of relationships are reproduced the social ties that link delegates and merchants. It is argued that these social ties are at the base of the reproduction of the clientelistic system and are executed through actions that make sense due to their moral character. The data used are ethnographic and come from conversations, interviews and observations at ‘tianguis’ and trade union offices in Monterrey. The empirical section is based on the cases of two delegates.
