Description
Summary:This paper discusses the most important results of a study carried out in two settlements located in the southern part of the State of Mexico. It proposes a look at sociodemographic elements from a dual perspective: as factor which lead to the deterioration of public health, and as resources utilized by the population to attain a higher standard of living and therefore, the possibility for reducing health problems. The prevalence of pathology is used as an indicator for the balance achieved by each household unit when individual and community resources come into play. This article deals with one of the social sectors most affected by the recent Mexican economic crisis the agricultural sector, subjected to a long process of deterioration.
