總結:Although the Gini index is designed to measure the degree of concentration of a variable, it is frequently used to analyse change in inequality in distribution, time and space. In the studies related to the evolution of inequality, the change in index values can be attributed not only to modifications in the distribution of the variable but also to changes in the relative sizes of the groups where it is distributed. This work proposes breaking down the Gini index in order to separate the variation into three component parts: i) the effect of the sizes of the groups, ii) the effect of relative participation of the groups, and iii) an effect that collects the non-separable components of sizes and relative participation.
