| Resumo: | To contribute to the academic discourse on the interplay between migration, housing and urban inhabiting strategies, this article analyzes the residential arrangements adopted by migrants from Paraguay and Venezuela in their settlement processes. The study focuses on the Greater Buenos Aires area, Argentina’s main housing system, using a quantitative methodological approach based on census microdata. The findings reveal that while a long-established group like the Paraguayan population adopt residential patterns very similar to those of natives–with a strong family and intergenerational component–Venezuelan arrangements display greater diversity, shaped by their recent arrival and more heterogeneous urban settlement strategies. Both groups show a high propensity for residential autonomy; however, for Paraguayans it is largely a gradual achievement over time, while Venezuelans tend to reach it more rapidly and through more varied pathways. In the initial stages of settlement, similarities between the two groups emerge, reflecting dynamics common to newcomers in an urban setting like Greater Buenos Aires, important differences persist, revealing specific migratory profiles and trajectories.
