Summary:The study analyses the changes through the time in the drop out of school in three cohorts of Mexican people: women and men located in two socioeconomic strata. The interaction among cohort, gender and stratum in this transition is complex because women had higher risk to leave the school in comparison with men, but women of the medium stratum had more possibilities to stay in school. In each cohort there were educational advances and setbacks, due to this certain groups got more benefits, but never the country brought down the inequalities.
