Descripción
Sumario:The first part of this article analyzes the performance of manufacturing exports in Mexico from the 1980s to the mid-1990s, as a result of the economic crisis and internal adjustment programs, within the context of the re-structuring of the world economy that began in industrialized countries during the 1970s. The second part describes the resultant changes in industrial geography, by identifying the industries that dominate manufacturing exports and determining their importance in employment and the sectoral GDP. Finally, the article suggests a number of industrial policy recommendations on the basis of the dynamism and location of the various manufacturing industries, according to their differing export  capacities.
