| description | The authors discuss the role of the demographic regime, and particularly its changes, in agrarian transformations. The hypothesis that guides this research, the results of which are presented in the article, is that the factor of demographic structure explains the workings and reproduction of several social formations. The authors are specially interested in rethinking the debate over the role of innovation in the relation between population and production changes.Although they claim that the agrarian transformations that ocurr in the studied regions are a result of demographic changes, the authors emphasize that these transformations are also influenced by their wider social context, wherefore their relations with market economy, urban society and wage work must be considered to explain more comprehensively the mutual influences between the demographic, technological and socioeconomic spheres. |

Los autores de este trabajo discuten el papel que desempeña el régimen demográfico, y particularmente sus cambios, en las transformaciones agrarias. La hipótesis que guía la investigación cuyos resultados se exponen aquí, es que la estructura demográfica constituye un factor explicativo para dar cuenta del funcionamiento y reproducción de diversas instancias sociales. Interesa en particular a los autores repensar el debate en torno al papel de la innovación en la relación entre población y transformaciones productivas.Aun cuando se sostiene que las transformaciones agrarias, que tienen lugar en las regiones aquí analizadas, son un resultado de cambios demográficos, se destaca también que éstas resultan influidas por el contexto social mayor del que forman parte, de tal manera que las relaciones con la economía de mercado, con la sociedad urbana y con el trabajo asalariado constituyen factores que deben ser tomados en cuenta para tener una explicación más comprensiva de las influencias recíprocas entre lo demográfico, lo tecnológico y lo socioeconómico.
