Description
Résumé:The article studies the communication strategies of counter-mobilization against women´s right to decide on their own bodies in Mexico. Basing our analysis on the situation staged in the state of Veracruz in 2018, we argue that conservative organizations take advantage of the mediation opportunity structures provided by online social networks and the media to circulate of ideas, following strategies for adapting their arguments to national and subnational political contexts. By combining digital ethnography and public discourse analysis, we identified two types of messages that were echoed in legislative discussions that prevented the decriminalization of abortion in the state: 1) external pressure and interference to impose agendas; 2) the comparison of abortion as an exacerbation of the context of death and organized crime.
