To this end, the essay discusses the main points in the argument that Udayana (11th century), one of the leading proponents of the late Indian school of logic (nyāya), elaborated in order to defend God’s existence, partly as a response to the objections that had been previously put forward by the Buddhist tradition, in the figure of Dharmakirti (7th century), as well as by the brahmanical orthodoxy, in the figure of Kumārila Bhaṭṭa (8th century). Secondarily, the essay questions the understanding that in the form of a too simplistic opposition between reason and spirituality still prevails in the Spanish speaking world about the speculative tradition of Sanskritic India. |

El propósito general del ensayo es mostrar la enorme sofisticación que en la India alcanzó la especulación filosófica en torno al problema de la existencia de Dios entre los siglos VII y XI. Con este fin, el ensayo presenta y discute algunas de las tesis principales del argumento que Udayana (siglo XI), figura central de la escuela lógica nyāya, formuló para defender la existencia de un dios creador, en buena medida como respuesta a las objeciones que de tiempo atrás fijaron tanto la tradición budista, en la figura de Dharmakirti (siglo VII), como la ortodoxia brahmánica, en la figura de Kumārila Bhaṭṭa (siglo VIII). De manera secundaria, el ensayo problematiza el entendimiento que, en la forma de una tosca oposición entre razón y espiritualidad, sigue prevaleciendo en nuestro medio, el que piensa y escribe en español, en torno a la tradición especulativa sánscrita.
